In the past decade bottled water has become the drink of choice for many, and has revolutionised the consumer. The success of the bottled water industry can be attributed to the high quality of its product, and the benefits it has over sugary, carbonated drinks, which although can taste good at the time, can often leave the drinker feeling as thirsty and as dehydrated. Eye-catching advertising campaigns with the use of scantily clad beauties in waterfalls to the use of small babies has caught the eye of the consumer in a fashionable sense, but has also raised awareness amongst the buying public of the benefits of drinking bottled water. All of this has meant that the industry has seen a rapid increase in sales in the last 10 years.
Bottled water – a runaway success
In a relatively short space of time, the industry has grown exceptionally to become a major player in the bottled drinks market. Part of its success is due to consumers becoming increasingly health conscious in their choices, recognising the considerable health benefits that it offers in comparison to the fizzy, sugary drinks that previously held dominance over the convenience drinks market. While such flavoured drinks may come in a range of attractive tastes and colours, they offer little nutritional value and their high sugar content has been linked to tooth decay and hyperactivity in children. Bottled water meanwhile contains very little calorific content or sugar, and is instead often rich in beneficial minerals.
Now, not only does bottled water raise the profile of the importance of drinking water regularly, it has moved forward in the fashion stakes as well. Gone are the days of a simple bottle of water, which in itself has become quite trendy, consumers can enjoy a range of funky flavours ranging from lemon and lime to a strawberry twist. Having all the benefits of a bottle of fresh clean water, but adds flavour and excitement. This new way of drinking water has opened the doors for more consumers, who perhaps would have before grabbed a can of fizzy carbonated juice, but would now opt for a smooth bottle of water with a touch of lemon.
Bottled and mains fed water coolers in the workplace
The bottled water revolution of the past decade has also permeated through to the world of work. Many offices and other workplaces are equipped with one or more water coolers, which supply staff and customers with a constant source of high quality drinking water.
A bottled cooler or a mains fed water dispenser is an effective way of increasing workplace productivity through better concentration and alertness, and this has also contributed to the rise and rise of the industry.
The future is bottled
From humble beginnings, water industry has risen to become an important part of many people’s daily diets. Now a multi-billion pound industry, the growth of bottled and mains fed water companies shows no signs of slowing. With a variety of types and flavours of water on the market and a growing demand, water coolers appear to be here to stay.
